This yummy and refreshing Apple Martini or Appletini with a hint of sour apple flavor is one of our favorite cocktails throughout the year. This vodka cocktail takes just minutes to prepare and always steals the show with its pretty and refreshing color.
Truth to be told, not a fan of apples. Not even the apple pies or baked apple goodies.
When I tried the Green Apple Martini or Appletini, this sweet and delicious cocktail with a vodka base changed my view completely. 🙂 For quite sometime now, this has been one of our favorite cocktails. And there’s nothing like sipping on a tart and refreshing apple-forward martini while watching the leaves change colors. This green apple appletini screams fall when it comes to the crisp taste of the cocktail. Cold and crisp with the right sourness to it.
Serve this Tart Green Apple Martini ice cold.
Martini primarily contains vodka and one or more of some kind of flavoring juices. I juiced the green apples and mixed it up with vodka to make my Tart Green Apple Martini.
If you like Martinis with a touch of sourness, you may want to check out Lime-Limencillo Martini which is tried and tested.
I did try a couple recipes to settle down on this one though. I kept it simple and straightforward. Mostly simple and easy because I want the cocktail to be pretty straighforward so that I can make it and then enjoy time with my friends or husband while sipping on thos goirgeous and refreshing and ice cold apple maritini.
What does an apple martini taste like?
Who created the apple martini?
An Appletini is a cocktail containing vodka and apple juice and/or apple cider, apple liqueur or apple brandy. Originally created in 1996 at Lola’s West Hollywood restaurant by a bartender called Adam. Thus the name – Adam’s Apple Martini.
What kind of alcohol is martini?
The martini is a cocktail made with gin and vermouth, and garnished with an olive or a lemon twist. Over the years, the martini has become one of the best-known mixed alcoholic beverages.
Ingredients used in Apple Martini
- Sour apple liqueur – the classic is De Kuyper Pucker Sour Apple Schnapps. The color is bright green and which is what gives this drink its classic look and sweet and sour flavor.
- Vodka – I used an unflavored vodka.
- Apple juice or cider – look for 100% apple juice with no other flavors added. If it’s the time of year that apples are in season, fresh-pressed apple juice/cider will work best.
- Lemon juice – a little lemon juice, combined with the apple juice, stands in for the sour mix in the traditional appletini recipe and adds to the tart pucker. You can use fresh squeezed lemon juice or bottled lemon juice.
- Green apple – You need to have a few slices to use as garnish.
How to make an Apple Martini or Appletini
1 – Add the apple juice, vodka, sour apple schnapps and lemon juice to the shaker.
2 – Cap the shaker and give it a brisk shake.
3 – Add the ice and again shake briskly for about 30 seconds.
4 – Pour into a chilled martini glass and garnish with slices of green apple if desired.
Tips and Tricks
This cocktail is perfect for parties! You can mix up the cocktail in a pitcher, refrigerate and then serve!
You can also swap the green apple schnapps for green apple vodka to get a less sweet apple flavor.
Its up to you if you want to sweeten your apple martini by adding some simple syrup. I would recommend that before making the cocktail, taste the schnapps and adjust the simple syrup to your taste.
As for bar equipment, you’ll definitely need a drink shaker to shake and chill your cocktail
For measuring the drink ingredients, I use a glass with ounces marked on it.
And don’t forget proper cocktail glasses for the full effect. My love for coupe glasses are never ending. So Yeah!!!
When cutting an apple slice garnish, dip it in lemon juice, and this will not only preserve the color but also keep it from turning yellow once exposed to oxygen.
Start with this basic recipe and you can change up your appletini to make your own variation.
For a stronger vodka martini, skip the apple juice/cider and just pour equal parts sour apple pucker and vodka into your cocktail shaker.
For a less sweet cocktail reduce the amount of apple juice and sour apple pucker. Start by cutting it in half and adjust from there until you find your perfect blend.
For a little sweeter apple martini use less lemon juice and add some simple syrup.
Want a little cinnamon and nutmeg While mixing the apple martini cocktail, add a pinch of cinnamon/nutmeg.
