Diwali is a big thing for Indians. They have started celebrating Diwali all over the world now. At my work here in California, USA.., we celebrate Diwali too, Indian food is catered, everyone dresses up in traditional Indian attire, there are diyas lighted up .., and generally, there is a festive mood in the air.

And Diwali isn’t complete without making platters and platters full of Indian sweets – gulab jamuns, kaju katlis to pedas. For this year Diwali, I thought of making pedas which taste like bite-sized milk fudges but with a finer and more distinct taste to it.

And, during Diwali, a lot of people distribute sweets (mithai). So if you want to make something sweet for your friends and relatives or even for co-workers at work, this Microwave Cardamom Peda is your go-to option.I usually tend to favor recipes which have condensed milk in it, since, I’m mostly time-crunched and this is why I decided to make these Microwave Cardamom Peda for this year’s Diwali Potluck at our place because it seemed fairly easy to make.

Troubleshooting

Why my Pedas are chewy and cracky? – Your peda will become chewy and cracky if you heat the mixture too much. After the 3 time you put it in the microwave, take a little bit of the mixture with your flingers and try to make a small ball. The peda mixture is ready when the mixture doesn’t stick to your fingers.

Tips for best ever Microwave Cardamom Peda

Check your microwave setting. The heating options for microwaves vary from brand to brand.

Use a big microwave safe bowl to make microwave cardamom peda because, around the third time, when you put the peda mixture in the microwave, the mixture will rise. If there isn’t enough space in the bowl, it will spill and make a mess.

The first time when I made them, I added 1 cup of milk powder to 1 cup condensed milk and 1 stick butter. The taste was really good but the texture was a little chewy, which wasn’t bad at all but I wanted to get that authentic peda taste and texture that we get from pedas from the sweet shops in India. So, the second time around, I increased the amount of Milk Powder to 2 cups and the texture came out just the way I wanted it.

Make the peda a day or two in advance and keep them lined up in a clean air tight container.

Keep an eye on the peda while making them. If after the 3rd time, you can form a tiny ball with the mixture, that means, the mixture is ready. Do not put the mixture back in the microwave. Wait for 10 minutes and start shaping them in to peda.

Its ideal to garnish the peda while they are warm.

How to store Microwave Cardamom Peda?

These Microwave cardamom peda can be made couple of days in advance. You can store the peda in an airtight container.

Clean the container really well and dry it thoroughly. Its very important that the container is clean or else the Microwave Cardamom Peda will absorb the smell from the container and loose its fragrant cardamom smell.
