I make Banana Bread a lot at home because, invariably, the last two or three bananas end up attracting fruit flies. However, my kids are not fond of bananas – in any form. I have tried smoothies to cakes to breads but nothing works. But guess what, this time around, I was able to out smart them. Yay to Moms! All I did was, added dark chocolate to the mix and ended up with a dessert they couldn’t keep their hands off.

The Chocolate Banana Bread came out to be cakey, not very sweet and extremely soft. The best part was, you couldn’t make out if there is bananas in it.

Bottom line is, if you got a fussy kid who doesn’t like healthy stuff, this is the best way to cheat them. They will be thinking they are eating chocolate cake and least they would know that, its a a piece of cake bread that’s loaded with healthy benefits of a banana.

I also mixed together some nutella and Milk to make a glaze which was insanely tasty.

Here is Chocolate Banana Bread with Nutella Glaze.

  • 2 large overripe bananas
  • 1/3 cup melted butter
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar (packed, light or dark)
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) with a rack in the middle.
  • Purée or mash the peeled ripe bananas until smooth
  • Place the banana purée into a large mixing bowl. Stir the melted butter. Stir in the brown sugar and salt. Whisk to break up any clumps of brown sugar. Stir in the beaten egg and vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa, baking soda
  • Add the flour mixture to the banana mixture and stir until just incorporated.
  • Pour batter into a buttered loaf pan and bake for 1 hour. One way to test is to gently push the center top of the chocolate banana bread down with your finger. If it feels relatively firm and bounces back when you release your finger, that’s a good sign that it’s done.
  • Remove from oven and let cool for 10 minutes in the pan. Gently remove the loaf from the pan and place on a rack to cool completely.

Nutella Glaze

  • 1/2 cup full fat milk
  • 1 cup Nutella

Place Nutella and milk in microwave safe dish; heat for 30 seconds or until smooth when stirred. Drizzle over warm bread , spreading evenly over Chocolate Banana Bread with a spatula.

I’m scrappy, weird and goofy. I’m a snob when it comes to a LOT of things.., Mainly – coffee, wine and chocolates. I laugh loud and yell louder. I run fast, but walk slow. I love walking long walks with a hot mug of coffee held tight between my hands. I have lonely eyes and a kind heart. I forgive but rarely forget. I remember the silliest of things and forget important matters. I love to run, read, cook and entertain. I draw inspirations from anything and everything aesthetic. There are numerous people who have and still continue to enrich my life in many good ways. I will remain indebted to them – Always. My dad is my biggest fan when it comes to cooking. I could see his eyes light up every time I serve something. My mom’s agility and affectionate nature that reflects on her food is something I’m still trying to master. Travel fascinates me amongst other things. Leave me in Venice and I would get lost in its timeless beauty – The canals. The piazzas. The art. The espresso. Leave me in NYC and I would tirelessly walk the length and breadth of the city (after all, There is always something open 24 hours a day). Through this blog, I am hoping to bring in my passion and love for a few things – Cooking, Travel, Kids, Coffee, Clothes and in the interim learn more myself. Hope I am able to do justice to my PASSION.

  3. Yum. We are opposite to you in our house – the adults are not banana fans but my son loves them. And oddly, I love banana bread but he doesn’t! I inevitably end up with a few overripe ones from time to time, so this can be a nice Mummy-only treat. 😉 I’m going to give it a try in my combi steam oven, thanks so much.

  6. You, my friend, are an absolute genius!
Fortunately my kid loves bananas. And before they can attract the fruit flies, I freeze them. (Mama likes her smoothies)
But this, this is amazing, beyond amazing. The best! I can’t wait to try it!

  7. Wow, this look phenomenal. Love the idea of adding a glaze, it makes it seem so decadent.

BTW, I run a monthly chocolate link-up called We Should Cocoa which you might be interested in entering. Details on my blog. I’m changing the rules slightly to make it any chocolate recipe from today, but won’t have the post up until later today.
